Weewar

weewar.comIt’s seriously addictive.

Turn-based strategic war game, played through your browser … although it has an API and I believe is already available for iPhone. It came out of beta 3 days ago (thanks Chris for the beta invite only 2 days before it went public :p) and currently has almost 4,000 active games.

I had a wee bit of trouble (ha ha) playing it on my EEE PC this evening … the screen resolution even with tinyfox Firefox theme and browser at full screen (F11) the map would occasionally just shoot half off the side of the screen - generally easily fixed by just dropped the font size down.

It’s a bit annoying when you start a game and then everyone nicks off … but I’ve had two good games running this evening; one with some random and one with Nick Hodge … which unfortunately I’m just about to obliterate off this very small one-on-one map.

You have troops, raiders, tanks and artillery - plus possibly hovercraft and ships/submarines in some games. Troops can capture bases, artillery and tanks can shoot over distance but artillery can either move or attack during a turn. During your turn you move all your pieces and attack enemy units where possible, capture bases and build stuff in your bases - new troops, tanks etc. Also each base you hold earns you more money per turn to pay for building your troops and tanks. You can also repair your units during a turn instead of moving or attacking.
